Anybody who’s been close to animals in their life isn’t going to be surprised about this…
Animals can tell right from wrong – Telegraph

Scientists studying animal behaviour believe they have growing evidence that species ranging from mice to primates are governed by moral codes of conduct in the same way as humans.

Until recently, humans were thought to be the only species to experience complex emotions and have a sense of morality.

But Prof Marc Bekoff, an ecologist at University of Colorado, Boulder, believes that morals are “hard-wired” into the brains of all mammals and provide the “social glue” that allow often aggressive and competitive animals to live together in groups.

I’ve been searching for a php MVC framework for my current position that can deal with Progress databases for a few years now. I’ve tried Zend Framework, CakePHP, and others, but finally I found CodeIgniter, which with a very minor modification, seems to work quite well and I’ve used it for several projects since discovering it a few weeks ago. The only change I had to make in the base code was this: Continue reading

I’m considering posting some articles on the solutions I’ve found to specific problems my my field, computer technology. They’ll be articles about php, WordPress(the software you’re reading this on), Linux, Apache, Windows, and many other things. Maybe I’ll have more to say about that stuff, since the world seems to want to go on it’s merry way into the hopper no matter what people do to try to warn others about what’s really happening.

I might even manage to post more stuff, since it’ll be a resource I can use in the future, instead of having to re-google things over and over again.

So they’ll be a new category, “Technology” being created in a few moments, and some new posts in that category.

This Saturday is the Reason Rally, a gathering of the godless in Washington, DC. It’s starting to look like I’ll be able to attend! It should be a nice, peaceful gathering with famous speakers and the whole nine yards. I just hope the believers don’t think god wants them to kill any followers of satan that day!

Explaining the “forgivable” home repair loans

I hope you all realize that far from being “free money”, these loans are guaranteed by HUD/FHA and when they’re “forgiven” what actually happens is that the federal government assumes the loan and pays the interest on it from your taxes.

So really, instead of being interest-free and forgivable, you and your descendants will be paying interest on these loans through your taxes forever. The total amount will far exceed the amount that was “forgiven”. And of course, since these loans increase the money supply, as all loans do, the inflation that results will also eat into your paycheck’s buying power.

Don’t worry, the banks get their interest in the end. They’re assured of it because the government has pledged your taxes to pay it. Not only that, but should you end up defaulting on your loan, they have a property that’s been kept up by the taxpayers, rather than they having to rehab the property before selling it as a REO.

The banker’s scam is beautiful in its insidiousness and subterfuge.

Oh, and while helping the elderly and others down on their luck is a fine goal, this isn’t the way to do it. Consider that fact that if these people hadn’t had to pay 2 1/2 times the price of their house in interest on bank-created money, they’d have plenty to do their own repairs.

The Foreclosure Surge
There’s Never Been a Worse Time to Buy a House
by MIKE WHITNEY

Foreclosure starts surged 28 percent in January, according to Lender Processing Services (LPS).

Now that the banks are confident that a settlement will be reached in the $25 billion robo-signing scandal, they’ve started aggressively processing the mountainous backlog of delinquent mortgages on their books. As the process gains pace, a deluge of REOs will be dumped onto the market pushing down home prices and adding to the 10.7 million properties that are already underwater. Fitch Ratings Agency estimates that home prices could fall another 9.1 percent before the market touches bottom.

Here’s more from CNBC’s Diana Olick:

“… repeat foreclosures hit an all-time high in January, representing 47 percent of all foreclosure starts… This is going to cause some short-term pain in the housing market because as foreclosure starts increase, so do foreclosure sales…. (And) that pushes home prices down…..

We’ve also got … 60 months of inventory to get through in judicial states. Judicial states are the ones where you do need a judge to get through.” (“Unclogging the foreclosure market”, Diana Olick, CNBC) Continue reading

What? An honest one? You’re kidding me!!

Yes it’s true. Dennis Kuninich is an honest politician, at least about the source of our money supply and our debt. Here’s an article he wrote for Nation of Change

Kucinich on U.S. Bailout of European Banks: We Cannot Continue to Throw Money Down the Bank Hole

By Dennis Kucinich

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today released the following statement in response to reports that the Federal Reserve has committed U.S. dollars to the cash-strapped European Central Bank:

“The Fed has found trillions and trillions of dollars for banks through TARP and Quantitative Easing Episodes 1, 2 and 3.  Now they figured out a way to bail out yet another set of banks – this time in Europe.  But they can’t seem to figure out a way to help out the American people who are still suffering from this recession by creating jobs repairing our infrastructure. This is a clear window into priorities – Government of the banks, by the banks and for the banks.

“Bailouts and austerity packages have made no difference at best, and ‘the markets’ just cannot be satisfied.  We cannot continue to throw money down the bank hole. Continue reading

We Eat Oil – Eating Fossil Fuels

This is a repost of an article from Mike Ruppert’s “From The Wilderness” website. Dale Allen Pfeiffer shows how oil and other fossil fuel energy inputs have made our food supply totally dependent on their energy. This has major implications for when world oil production begins its inevitable decline. It’s somewhat scary, but in reaction you should start learning to grow at least some of your own food if you have the room to do it.

This article by the author of Gun, Germs and Steel and Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed shows us that most of our basic assumptions about our experiment of civilization are sorely mistaken. I especially am impressed by how hunter-gatherer peoples had such better health than we do today.

Jared Diamond: The Worst Mistake in the History of the Human Race

The Worst Mistake in the History of the Human Race
By Jared Diamond
University of California at Los Angeles Medical SchoolDiscover Magazine, May 1987

Pages 64-66: To science we owe dramatic changes in our smug self-image. Astronomy taught us that our earth isn’t the center of the universe but merely one of billions of heavenly bodies. From biology we learned that we weren’t specially created by God but evolved along with millions of other species. Now archaeology is demolishing another sacred belief: that human history over the past million years has been a long tale of progress. In particular, recent discoveries suggest that the adoption of agriculture, supposedly our most decisive step toward a better life, was in many ways a catastrophe from which we have never recovered. With agriculture came the gross social and sexual inequality, the disease and despotism, that curse our existence. Continue reading
